Why Custom ECU Tuning is Better
A client brought his supercharged Lotus Elise to us for mapping after having had unsuccessful attempts at having “generic” tuning files downloaded to his ECU by another firm.
The client reported poor performance, poor drivability and a generally unpleasant road manners. The problem with generic tuning files is that they are done remotely (the tuner buys them from someone else – often in a different country) and are therefore more often than not sub-optimal if not potentially harmful to the engine.
Our first dyno run produced the grey power and torque curves shown above, and the AFR trace showed a dangerously lean condition.
We installed a PiP ECU which is a great piece of kit being a true “plug and play” solution offering complete control over all dynamic engine parameters, and also features an adjustable traction control facility.
Following installation and careful mapping we were able to produce the red power and black torque curves shown above. Drivability and road manners were also dramatically improved.
The PiP ECU can be reviewed and purchased here.

New ECU Remapping Guarantee: Free mapping and free fuel!
Buoyed with confidence from having years of successful race winning ECU mapping services under our belt, we decided to make things a little easier for you to chose us as your preferred service provider by eliminating any risk that we won’t do a great job for you.
Here’s the deal; if we remap your ECU and it’s subsequently discovered that another firm has improved upon our work, we will refund the money you paid plus the cost of the fuel used*.
Another interesting thing we’ve noticed recently is that although our charge out rate is relatively higher than some of our competitors, because our equipment and processes are very efficient, the overall cost of the services is often cheaper than our peers.
Please give us a try. We’re confident that you won’t be disappointed, but even if you are at least it won’t have cost you anything!
*The “small print”:
- A claim must be made within 1 month in order to eliminate any adverse effects due to wear and tear.
- The specification of the car must not have changed in any way.
- A claim must be validated on our Rototest dyno (you can appoint your own operator if necessary)

Hondata ECU remapping system now available for Honda CR-Z Sports hybrid
We love the Honda CR-Z hybrid here at Torque Developments! We love its looks and its economy, but it’s simply not fast enough to excite. As standard the driving experience leaves us wanting more…
Hence why we’ve been releasing a range of produces designed to put more squirt into the CR-Z and the latest (and potentially most significant) is a Hondata FlashPro ECU remapping system for the funky sports hybrid.
So, what is Hondata? Based in sun kissed California, Hondata is the leading supplier of remapping software and has a proven track record in offering reliable, high performance ECU solutions for previous Honda models including the EP3 and FB2 Civic Type R, where it’s FlashPro system has become the choice for tuning enthusiasts and professionals.
What is the Hondata FlashPro system for the CR-Z? The Hondata FlashPro system expands the capabilities of the stock Honda CR-Z ECU, enabling the manipulation of key engine parameters as well as adding advanced extra features that the stock engine management system lacks, including rev and launch limiters, fuel injector scaling and individual cylinder trims and knock control.
The speed of installation and powerful functionality of the Hondata FlashPro system allows professional and hobby tuners to affordably remap the ECU to optimise the performance of mechanical modifications including induction kits, exhaust systems, camshafts or more radical upgrades for the CR-Z such as turbocharger or supercharger conversions.
Hondata Honda CR-Z users can also benefit from advanced features including the ability to swap between two maps (both calibrations can be stored within the FlashPro unit) and the facility to datalog up to 20 hours of key engine parameters.
Hondata CR-Z FlashPro key features:
- Programmable ECU interface
- OBDII diagnostic port connection
- USB 2.0 connection
- Works with laptop or desktop PC
- Live tuning capability
- 20 hours on board datalogging memory
- Windows compatible FlashPro Manager software
- Check and clear diagnostic codes
- Customizable laptop gauges
- Dual calibration storage – upload from one of two calibrations stored in the FlashPro
Hondata FlashPro CR-Z tuning features:
- Ignition, fuel, idle speed, table editing
- VTEC activation window
- MAP sensor based tuning
- Rev and launch limiters
- Map tracing & lambda overlay
- Choice of either AFM or MAP based fuel tuning
- Expanded fuel ignition and knock tables for forced induction
- 4 bar MAP sensor support (43 psi)
- Support for larger injectors
- Injector latency / dead time
- Individual cylinder fuel & ignition trim
- Individual cylinder knock control

Nissan SR20DET Engine Build (Part 4)
Following on from the high performance engine build detailed in earlier blogs, and a very careful engine running in process, Phil brought his cherished S14 200SX back to us for a check over and to tune the HKS FCON VPro ECU to maximise the performance and to see whether our number crunching had been close to the designed the specifications.
Considering that we had specified the engine package to hit a target of 400hp at the hubs, the result of 412hp (DIN corrected) and a very flat 336 ft/lbs at the hubs should put a smile on Phil’s face!
Here’s the raw dyno data. You can see that as it was quite a cold day (8 degrees C) the DIN correction is making quite a substantial downwards adjustment from the 432hp observed at the hubs!
New TODA ‘High Power’ performance exhausts for the Honda NSX from Torque Developments (TDi plc)
Honda’s NSX is the stuff of legend. Developed with input from Ayrton Senna, produced by Honda for 15 years with only minor changes, it’s the Japanese supercar that shook the Italians and forced them to raise their game.
Which means that when it comes to fitting a NSX with performance exhaust it needs to be a top quality item befitting of the Honda supercar’s legend – which is where Japanese tuning house TODA Racing comes in.
It’s just launched a new range of ‘High Power’ exhausts for both the 3.0-litre (C30A, 270bhp,) and 3.2-litre (C32B, 290bhp) variants of the Honda NSX.
Featuring an innovative ‘X-pipe’ between the two silencer boxes to minimise back pressure and maximise the aural experience from the NSX’s high revving V6 engine, the TODA ‘High Power’ exhaust features 60mm diameter internal tubing and slash cut round tailpipes boasting a smart titanium blue finish.
Surely these TODA exhausts are perfect for any discerning Honda NSX owner and they are available now from TODA Europe, priced at £2025.00 excluding taxes.
